Saw 7 ended the franchise with a torture –heavy yet slightly anticlimactic bang. The 6 “episodes”, although inconsistent, were rich in suspenseful twists and turns, which allowed the most squeamish of us to periodically shield our eyes and ears, whilst closely following the trials and tribulations of John Kramer and friends. Saw 3D torture scenes make up about 97 per cent of the film. It had a 3D engagement to live up to and it went bombastic on the gore, becoming far too nauseating to be (…)

It had a 3D engagement to live up to and it went bombastic on the gore, becoming far too nauseating to be enjoyable. But because we're all about highlighting unexpected angles in even the basest, most one-dimensional films, let us look at the Saw franchise as a particularly revealing look at the state of abandon and disrepair American urban infrastructure has fallen in. It serves as condemnation of inner city neglect probably better than Cleveland Vs Wall Street or 8 Mile. Yes, Jigsaw and his acolytes are the first to benefit of all these empty asylums, factories and warehouses that seem to crop up all over the place. Or something.
