Documenting Presence Through Silence: Re-imagining, Re-constructing and Re-presenting Activist Women’s Voices

Thursday 12 March 2026

Referencing her film Crossing Lines and Braiding Voices (2026), Dr Patricia Francis discusses her offer of an alternative filmic language by abandoning semiotic codes and signifiers. This approach has given volume to the two disparate groups of activists featured in her film: women involved in the 1984-1985 miners’ strike, and those involved in the 2016 Black Lives Matter events.
