  • Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2026

Europe’s largest (and the world’s second largest) film festival back, nestled in the heart of France’s wild, volcanic region of the Massif Central. Its international competition, made up of 12 programmes of shorts, is one of the richest platforms for storytelling from around the world. The... continue
  • Arab picks from LFF 2025

Aside from our recently reviewed Palestine 36, the BFI London Film Festival marked the festival run tailend for a number of films from the Arab world. Highlights include Erige Sehiri’s Promised Sky, a rare, necessary, and beautifully dramatised account of migrant women from the Ivory Coast living... continue
  • Palestine 36 - Harrowing and all too rare retelling of the...

Palestinian cinema is distinctly prolific. The more efforts are made to erase Palestinians as a people and Palestine as a slice of West Asian land, the more urgent the storytelling becomes. 2025 has already seen a number of much hyped premieres and releases, but the novelty this year seems to be... continue
  • In Vermiglio, the cold bites but it also keeps you alive.

1944. Wartime Italy. Icebound village. Maura Delpero’s Vermiglio (2025) is truly an exquisite winner of the Venice Film Festival’s Grand Jury. The slow-burn family saga unspools the glimpses of joy swallowed by the void of war. It has the essence of a memoir with the period film rooted in the... continue

N21 Film Festival – Day 4: Dreams of a Life

by Katie Hogan
As I walked up the red carpet and was directed into the church hall behind United Reformed Church in Winchmore Hill, I knew this was going to be unlike any other film festival I’d attended. The atmosphere of the festival was one of “community”. Everyone seemed to know each other and even though I was technically an outsider I felt very much part of this community. The setting was very (…) Continue Reading »

Day 3 N21 festival

by Kerry Gilfillan
The N21 Film festival has a DIY, unpretentious feel, staging its screenings in scout halls and churches in the dark outer-reaches of north London. Greying scout masters serve the wine, and eats take the shape of red fairy cakes with coiffures curling an inch high. Most of the screenings are accompanied by film-maker talks. Last night was a Future Shorts screening with enjoyable pieces from (…) Continue Reading »

Day 1 : Coverage of ’The Burbs’ at the N21 Film Festival in London

by Sophia Freeman
Situated in leafy Winchmore Hill, the N21 Film Festival - part of the N21 Festival, launched for the first time this year, kicking off Saturday night with a screening of Joe Dante’s late nineties horror comedy - ‘The Burbs’. The first thing you notice about Winchmore Hill is its ‘village’ feel. Upon leaving the train station (which has no gates - presumably because there aren’t many fare (…) Continue Reading »

by Clotilde Couturier
Last month, I attended the greatest short film festival in the world, in terms of both the number of visitors and its selection of the best of avant-garde cinema : The Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, of course ! French Association "Sauve qui peut le court métrage" is a leader in the promotion and distribution of short films and supports the format via not only the Clermont (…) Continue Reading »
